This "Introduction to Basic Handgun Safety" is the NRA class
that certifies people for Colorado's Concealed Handgun Permit program.

This is a one-day class (8:00 a.m. to about 5:00 p.m.) at the Rifle Fire House just north of City Market. The cost is only $85.00 per person and rental guns are available for $25.00 for those who need them.  Students provide their own ammunition. At the end of classroom instruction, we will shoot at the Rifle Sportsmen’s Club.  These classes fill up very quickly and enrollment is limited so you MUST pre-pay to register.  Contact Edward Wilks at 625-GUNS (4867) or to sign up.  Along with this class, we also offer Advanced Combat Handgun, Tactical Rifle, Tactical Shotgun, Defensive Fighting, and other private, group, and corporate instruction.  Call for further information.

The Law:          Colorado has passed the “CCW” (Carry Concealed Weapon) Permit law.  Qualifying Colorado Citizens may now obtain a Concealed Handgun Permit. (Contact your County Sheriff for info.)  There are approximately thirty (30) States that Honor a Colorado Concealed Weapon Permit, including most of the states around us like Arizona, Idaho, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Wyoming and others.  This list is constantly updated.  Check with your area law enforcement agency, or websites like CBI at http://cbi.state.co.us/ccw/reciprocity.asp or others like www.handgunlaw.us and www.ccrkba.org

Class Info:        Class size is limited and is filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please Note: Due to popularity, enrollment usually fills up one month prior to class.  Reservations will only be made upon receipt of payment.  The best thing to do is call us at the store at 625-GUNS(4867) and pay with your credit or debit card over the phone.  Only when payment is received will your placement be secured.  We also offer private, group, and corporate instruction and rates.

Requirements:   NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.  You will learn all you need to know in this class, from law and liability, to carrying and shooting.  However, you MUST be capable of being alert, attentive, responsible and safe with a handgun around others.  You MUST be absolutely obedient to instructors.  You MUST sign a waiver form.  If you cannot be safe, obedient, or submit to instruction, do not come.  Students that fail to meet these requirements will immediately forfeit their fees and be asked to leave the class.

Important!        Please note: Upon arrival, students SHALL NOT bring their handguns into the classroom.  Students SHALL NOT bring any ammunition into the classroom.

Equipment:      There are some items that are ABSOLUTELY Required.  Firearm must be safe, reliable, and accurate.  100 bullets (two standard boxes of 50) and must be factory-loaded, NO RELOADED AMMUNITION ALLOWED!  (Rental guns are available for $25.00 but DO NOT include ammunition.)

Clothing:          Proper clothing for sun and weather protection and protective wear for shooting is a must.  Long pants are required.  No shorts or skirts.  No open-collar or low-cut (ladies) shirts as ejected brass can land in the opening and burn the neck and chest!  Bring proper eye and hearing protection for shooting.  Glasses with plastic or poly-carbonate lenses are preferred.  Soft foam earplugs and/or over-the-ear hearing protection is approved.  A brimmed hat or ball-cap is recommended to help prevent ejected-brass from landing in your face.  Proper footwear is required.  No sandals or flip-flops.  Please DO NOT wear any camouflage or military-style clothing.  Finally, there is no cell phone use allowed except for emergency or on-call personnel.  Please keep your cell phones off throughout the class.  Snacks and drinks are permitted.  We will break for lunch and you may either bring your own food, or eat out.

Instructors:      Edward Wilks and Dave Hatch.  Edward is a former police officer and sergeant with 10 years law enforcement training and experience.  He is a certified firearms instructor with 21+ years of firearms teaching experience.  Certifications include: NRA, Law Enforcement Tactical Instructor, SWAT, Executive Security International, Defensive Technologies, Glock, CLETA, and others.  Dave Hatch is a current police officer and is also an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor including specialized disciplines in handgun, shotgun, and rifle.  He has taught for several years including helping youth and first-time shooters improve their skills.  Both instructors are highly experienced professionals and their teaching style helps establish a fun and comfortable learning environment for shooters of any level.
